New Management Positions for the Club
The Board of Directors of the Tupper Lake Golf Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Clarence Bell as the new Director of Golf. We are looking forward to a positive and revitalized year for the club. A thorough and comprehensive search of seven potential candidates for this position was conducted by the search committee. The committee unanimously agreed that Clarence Bell was the most qualified and best fit for our club. Clarence is a well known local golf pro and enthusiast. He is a graduate of the Professional Golfers Career College in Orlando, Florida. He has been working as an assistant professional and instructor at the world renowned Orange County National Golf Center, which was ranked the #2 public golf facility in the United States by "Golf World Magazine". He has spent time as a professional golfer playing the mini tours. His playing career brought him to numerous courses in a variety of states, all of which add to his knowledge of course design and tournament organization.
When Clarence became aware of the opportunity to return to his hometown of Tupper Lake and become the Direc-tor of Golf at the club, he enthusiastically expressed his desire to return to Tupper with these words, "This position has been dream of mine from the time I first stepped onto the course as a young man in Tupper Lake High School. I am thrilled to have the chance to pursue this opportunity." Clarence has experience running golf clinics and giving individual and group golf instruction. His knowledge of tournament operations, and merchandising has been enhanced by the time spent at Orange County National and by participating in competitive golf tournaments throughout the country. He has expertise in computer systems, sales, marketing and advertising. He is a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and is well versed in the rules of golf. Club repair and fitting, turf management, and staff management are additional skills he possess-es. He is familiar with all facets of the game of golf both from a business and a player standpoint.
The Board of Directors are also pleased to announce that William D. Hickey II has been hired as the Head of Grounds. Clarence and Bill, along with our crew will be working together as a team to bring Tupper Lake Golf Club to a new level of excellence. Bill has over 25 years of experience as the Superintendent at Ausable Valley Golf Course. He is a licensed pesticide applicator using newer chemicals with less impact on the environment and using "green technology"to protect and maintain the environment. He has expertise in irrigation installation and repair. He possesses management and scheduling skills to insure efficient and effective utilization of both equip-ment and employees. Equipment repair and maintenance along with knowledge of mowing, growing turf, installing new sod, implementation of newer seed varieties for varied course conditions are other areas of expertise that Bill brings to the position.
The Clubhouse has new proprietors. Dave and Deborah Clark will be running the 19th Hole Clubhouse and we are eagerly looking forward to their new and interesting menu offerings. They are enthusiastic about the upcoming season and are working on some new improvements for the clubhouse. As the opening of the Clubhouse gets closer, there will be more information regarding these innovations on our web site and in our local paper.
Located in the heart of the Adirondack Park, Tupper Lake Golf Club is a scenic mountain course every golfer should be sure to play on his or her next vacation in the Adirondacks. Tupper Lake Golf Club was established in 1932. At 6,153 yards Tupper Lake Golf & Country Club provides an interesting and rewarding challenge for both the high and low handicapper. It's tree lined fairways and wilderness background are very aesthetically pleasing. Glimpses of Big Tupper Lake and the surrounding mountains are spectacular!
